Biographical
Henry is considered one of the "trailblazers" for bringing mediation and ADR practices into the courts in Kansas and the Kansas City Region and has served as a Mediator and Arbitrator since 1991. He brings over 40 years of litigation experience working as in-house counsel, outside counsel to Fortune 100 companies and counsel to numerous small and mid-sized businesses to his ADR practice. He is also known for being one of first 'big firm' attorneys to represent individual plaintiffs in complex litigation involving civil rights and employment law. Henry served as litigation attorney for the City of Overland Park and the City of Topeka and later served as Labor Attorney for Trans World Airlines. After a decade of partnership in large law firms, Henry formed his own law firm in 2002 to focus on the needs of smaller businesses and to bring a greater level of personalized service to his clients. Since 1998, a significant portion of his practice is devoted to serving as a Neutral Mediator and Arbitrator. In addition to his own dispute resolution training, Henry has developed a number of mediation training programs including the Civil Mediation Training for the Kansas Bar Association. He has provided over 1,000 hours of dispute resolution training to attorneys, judges and other professionals seeking accreditation in eight different states. Henry twice served as President of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section for the Kansas Bar Association and Chairman of the Dispute Resolution Committee for the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. He also served on the Mediation Practices Committee for the Kansas Supreme Court, Office of Judicial Administration. Legal areas include: civil rights, discrimination, harassment, commercial law, land use, construction, business dissolution, securities, personal injury, estates, contracts, employment, intellectual property, debtor/creditor, professional malpractice and clergy abuse cases. Appointed to the Kansas Civil Service Board (2014-2020), Kansas DOL hearing officer since 1998, AAA Labor and Commercial/Emplooyment Arbitrator, FINRA, and other neutral panels Nationwide. Education
Henry is a graduate of Washburn University Law School (J.D. 1981), where he served as Moot Court President and Vice President, and was the only student admitted to the Order of Barristers in his first year of law school, receiving honors in advocacy and a full-tuition scholarship. He received his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University (B.A. 1978) with majors in Anthropology and Journalism, in addition to running on Baylor’s nationally ranked track team, serving on the Baylor Student Foundation and holding several officer positions in a social/service fraternity.
Memberships & Affiliations
Henry has twice served as President of the ADR Section of the Kansas Bar Association and Chair and Vice-Chair of the Dispute Resolution Committee for the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. He also has served on the Mediation Practices Committee for the Kansas Supreme Court, Office of Judicial Administration, KCMBA Attorney Fees Dispute Committee, appointed member to the Kansas Bar Association Attorney Fees Dispute Committee. Previously, Henry was appointed to the ABA Committee on the Law of Collective Bargaining.
