Biographical

Gail has been mediating cases for over 25 years involving all manner of litigated disputes and pre-suit matters, settling more than 1,800 cases to date.   She has been practicing law in Nashville, Tennessee for 40 years as a trial lawyer and also has a robust dispute resolution practice. Gail is listed as a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Mediator in General and in Family Law and is listed on the federal court mediation panels in the Western, Middle and Eastern districts of Tennesse.

Education

Gail Vaughn Ashworth is a 1983 graduate of Vanderbilt Law School and holds B.S., summa cum laude, (1977) and M.A. (1979) degrees in Music Education and Special Education from Tennessee Technological University.

She has served as a mentor/instructor at the ABA/TIPS/ABOTA National Trial Academy at the Judicial College in Reno, Nevada and regularly speaks on trial practice, ethics, medical ethics, health care law, alternative dispute resolution, access to justice and leadership development topics.

Gail was appointed as a Commissioner on the Tennessee Supreme Court's Access to Justice Commission (Chair 2018-2020) and currently serves as a Commissioner on the Tennessee Supreme Court's Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission.


Memberships & Affiliations

Gail is a past President of the Tennessee Bar Association (2009) and served as General Counsel of the TBA from 1999-2006. She Co-Chaired the Tennessee Supreme Court Jury Reform Commission (1997-1999), served on the Steering Committee of the TBA Leadership Law Program (2004-2007, 2012-2016) which she Co-Chaired the inaugural year, and currently serves on the ABA TIPS Leadership Academy Steering Committee (inaugural year 2006-current) and has served is an elected member of the ABA TIPS Council.  Gail chaired the TBA Evolving Legal Markets Special Committee 2015- 2018 and is an elected TBA Delegate in the ABA House of Delegates (2016-current).

Gail is also a former President of the Nashville Bar Association (1997) and served as the elected NBA delegate in the ABA House of Delegates from 2000-2006. She is a member of the Marion Griffin chapter of LAW and of TLAW. She is a fellow of the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar Foundations (Trustee 2005-2025, General Counsel 2013-2015, President 2016- 2018), served as Co-Chair of the NBF Leadership Forum, is a fellow of the ABA/YLD, the TBA/YLD, the NBA/YLD and is also an ABA/TIPS Fellow. She is a former member of the State of Tennessee Registry of Election Finance (Chair, 1996), a past member of the Board of Directors of Tennessee Justice Center, Inc. (Chair, 2006-2008), serves on the Board of Directors of Sister Cities Nashville, Inc. (Vice President, 2005-2009, President 2014- 2016) and is a member of the Medical Ethics Committee at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She is a Rule 31 Certified Mediator, has practiced civil litigation in Nashville, Tennessee since 1983 and is listed in Best Lawyers in America (1995-current).
