Biographical
Judge Smith was appointed to The District Court of Maryland for Baltimore City in 1985. During her tenure there she served as the Judge -in- Charge of the Civil Division and as the Judge -in- Charge of the Eastside District Court.
In 1993 Judge Smith was elevated to The Circuit Court for Baltimore City, a Trial Court of General Jurisdiction. Her service there included overseeing the Civil Division for five years and membership on the Circuit Court Management Committee, followed by three years as the Judge - in -Charge of the Circuit Court's Asbestos Docket.
She retired from active service as a Maryland Trial Judge in 2008. Until 2014 she served as a "Senior Judge" in the Circuit Courts for Baltimore City and Baltimore County and as a mediator for the Maryland Court of Special Appeals (now The Appellate Court of Maryland) Civil Mediation Program.
Her private mediation practice is varied and focuses on the resolution of complex matters involving personal injury, medical and other professional malpractice, construction disputes, toxic torts, insurance subrogation, and commercial disputes.
