Boyd N. Boland served as a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Colorado for 15 years, from 2000-2015, including as Lead Magistrate Judge from 2011-2015. While on the bench, Judge Boland presided over numerous civil and misdemeanor criminal trials. He also conducted more than 1,500 settlement conferences. Judge Boland’s docket included matters involving intellectual property; securities litigation; employment discrimination; insurance coverage and bad faith claims; civil rights suits; consumer protection cases; various federal statutes including the Fair Labor Standards Act, Federal Employer’s Liability Act, Federal Tort Claims Act, and Employee Retirement Insurance Security Act; and tort claims of every nature including all forms of professional negligence.
Judge Boland began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Paul V. Hodges, Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court. From 1981 until taking the bench in 2000, Judge Boland was associated with and then was a partner with the venerable Denver law firm of Holme Roberts & Owen, where he practiced in the litigation department. Judge Boland interrupted his practice, from 1984-1985, to serve as an associate professor of Constitutional Law at the Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson, Mississippi.
Judge Boland joined the Judicial Arbiter Group, Inc., in 2015.

Judge Boland received his Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Denver, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and named the Outstanding Senior Man. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University School of Law.
