BIOGRAPHICAL:

Tom has been a full-time mediator and arbitrator for the past 26 years. He has mediated over 3,500 cases and served as an arbitrator in over 200 proceedings. Tom also has served since 1992 as the Texas Special Master for all insurance company receiverships.

Tom started his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Carl O. Bue, Jr, United States District Judge, Southern District of Texas, Houston. Tom then joined the law firm of Sheinfeld, Maley and Kay, Houston, where he was a partner in and for certain years the Chair of the Litigation Section, Chair of Recruiting and a member of the Executive Committee. Tom left the firm in 1991 to establish his practice as a full-time mediator and arbitrator.

  • Law Degree with Honors, University of Texas at Austin - 1975
  • Business Degree with Honors, University of Texas at Austin - 1972

Memberships & Affiliations

  • Participation as instructor and trainer in over 150 hours of negotiation and mediation theory and practice
  • Speaker at numerous local, state and national ADR/CLE programs on mediation and arbitration
  • Panelist and Mock Mediator - ABA 1994 Annual Meeting - ("ADR in the 90's and Beyond A Debate on ADR Alternatives and Mock Mediation of a Complex Case")
  • Panel of Arbitrators, American Arbitration Association
  • Fellow, University of Texas School of Law Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution
  • Member, Association of Attorney-Mediators

Rates

Two sides: Full day is $1,975/side; Half day is $975/side. Three sides: Full day is $1,450/side; Half day is $750/side. If more than three sides, please e-mail Tom at tomcollinsadr@austin.rr.com or leave VM at (512) 474-2744. Arbitration based on $325/Hr rate.
