BIOGRAPHICAL:A former North Carolina Court of Appeals judge, Judge Thompson is currently of counsel to the firm of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP, in Charlotte. His practice with that firm over a period of forty years prior to his going on the Bench was primarily in the field of civil litigation.
Judge Thompson was a member of the original Dispute Resolution Committee of the North Carolina Bar Association. He has been certified as a Superior Court Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission since 1995. He is also a member of the panel of mediators of the American Arbitration Association, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the North Carolina Industrial Commission. He has served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association for the past forty years and also as a member of its North Carolina Advisory Council.
Since leaving the Court of Appeals, Judge Thompson has devoted most of his time to mediation and arbitration of civil court cases as a principal in the state-wide firm of Mediation, Inc. Mediation, Inc. has trained hundreds of mediators, primarily by conducting 40-hour training sessions in various cities of North Carolina. Judge Thompson has served as a coach in many such training sessions, and has mediated 100's of cases.
