BIOGRAPHICAL:

Richard Phelps is a full-time mediator and arbitrator. He has mediated 2000+ civil cases of all types with a very high resolution rate. He has arbitrated over 275 civil cases. His 30 years civil litigation and trial experience helps him understand your case's pluses and minuses. He has civil trial experience representing plaintiffs and defendants. He uses facilitation and/or evaluation techniques and other communications skills as needed for your case. Prior to practicing law he worked as a claims adjuster. From 1998 to 2004 he was Co-Chair of the Alameda County Bar ADR Section and produced many MCLE Programs on Mediation and Arbitration. His neutral experience also includes refereeing over 1200 soccer games including college, high school, youth competitive, State Cup, and adult amateur. He has been assigned to regional high school championships four times.

EDUCATION:

ADR:
  • 40 hour residential training at the Center for Mediation in Law.
  • Advanced Mediation training co-sponsored by Alameda and San Francisco County Bar Associations.
  • Participant in "The Advanced Mediator's Forum," Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution/Pepperdine University School of law.
  • Diversity Training for Mediation, 2 different programs.
  • Harnessing the Power of the Master Mediator.
  • Advanced Conflict Resolution Skills for Collaborative Professionals.
  • Numerous 1/2 day seminars on mediation.
  • 4 day residential training in Psychodrama.

Rates

$320 per hour for two party cases. Call for multiple party rates.
