H. Mills Gallivan is a shareholder in the firm’s Greenville office.  Mills has spent over 37 years as a litigator, serving clients and defending their interests in tort, commercial and occupational injury-related matters.  Currently, he focuses his practice on alternative dispute resolution, complex litigation, and workplace practices.  Mills is admitted to and has practiced before all levels of South Carolina and Federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.

He has learned from over three decades of litigation experience that his clients deserve an aggressive advocate, who will push for a speedy and efficient resolution of their disputes through negotiation when possible and trial when necessary.

Mills was the first Managing Shareholder of Gallivan White & Boyd, and his most recent term as Managing Shareholder ended in 2007.  Since that time, Mills has focused on a practice that takes advantage of his experience as a skilled negotiator in thousands of litigated matters.  He currently devotes the majority of his practice to Alternative Dispute Resolution as a mediator, arbitrator, negotiator and advocate.

As a mediator, Mills brings to the table a unique skill set.  He has broad based legal experience and knowledge of the law.  He also has a working knowledge of the South Carolina court system and the personalities of many members of the South Carolina Bar.  With his background and perspective, he is able to highlight for the parties, the strengths and weaknesses of their cases and concentrate on the benefits of resolving high stakes litigation prior to trial.

Mills has also dedicated a significant portion of his legal career to improving the profession and mentoring young lawyers.  His passion for the law and helping younger lawyers is demonstrated by his many previous and current leadership roles in legal organizations, as well as time given in direct service to the civil justice system.  This long history of service was recognized by the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association in the Fall of 2010, when it awarded him the prestigious Robert W. Hemphill Award recognizing a professional life of “distinguished and meritorious service to the legal profession.”
