BIOGRAPHICAL:Michael J. Gelfand is a Florida Bar Board Certified Real Estate Attorney. Mr. Gelfand's practice for over two decades emphasizes Florida community association law in Palm Beach County Courts, including matters affecting condominium, homeowners, property owners and country club communities.
In addition to being "AV" rated by Martindale Hubble, Michael Gelfand is a member of the College of Community Association Lawyers and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He is one of the few attorneys who is a Parliamentarian, with a membership in the National Association of Parliamentarians. In addition to being a Mediator (Florida Circuit Civil and Florida County Civil), Michael Gelfand has served as a Special Master for Florida's Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Court and for the City of Boca Raton, Florida.
Michael Gelfand has been repeatedly selected by his peers for bar leadership functions. He served the maximum two terms as the chair of The Florida Bar's Condominium and Planned Development Committee. Locally, he chairs the Palm Beach County Bar's Community Association Continuing Legal Education Committee as well as serving on the Civil Circuit Rules Committee. He has been reappointed to serve as the construction law attorney designee on the Palm Beach County School Board's Construction Oversite and Review Committee.
Michael Gelfand is a sought after community association law commentator, speaking for American Bar Association, American Legal Institute, American College of Real Estate Lawyers, The Florida Bar, the University of Miami and the Chautauqua Institute, among others.
His writings have received acclaim, including most recently The Plaza East Trilogy: Not a Nursery Rhyme, but Scary Warfare , The Florida Bar Journal (April 2008), a critical analysis of the collision between hurricanes and Florida s condominium property insurance legislation. The Florida Bar publishes his works including "Alternate Dispute Resolution, Arbitration and Mediation" and "Condominium and Homeowner Association Liens" and many statutory updates. He also contributed to Harrison's legal treatise Florida Admissibility of Evidence.
