BIOGRAPHICAL:Melvin A. Rubin has been an attorney for over 40 years and an ADR practitioner since 1985. He was a former member with master status in the Inns of Court litigating in both state and federal courts in both jury and non-jury cases as well as appellate work.
Mr. Rubin has mediated thousands of cases in all areas of conflict, including civil, appellate and family. He has mediated cases from complex, multi-parties to highly emotional family business disputes and divorces. He helped pioneer the concept of pre-mediation caucusing in difficult cases thought not to be resolvable.
He has trained over 6000 professionals in ADR over the past 25 years, including various former state Supreme Court Justices and in house for national law firms. He is nationally known for his work in ADR ethics, professional malpractice and designing ADR systems after mass disasters, including insurance class actions, hurricanes and the current mortgage foreclosure crisis. He now acts as an ADR consultant to The Collins Center for Public Policy in reference to their state wide mortgage foreclosure mediation program dealing with thousands of court cases.
Mr. Rubin the immediate past president of the American College of Civil Trail Mediators; a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Mediation; currently serves on the Florida Supreme Court Mediation and Arbitration Policy and Rules Committee (over 12 years); adjunct professor at the University of Miami Law School (over 8 years), former president of the Florida Association of Professional Family Mediators; previously served on the first Board of Advisors for the International Association for Collaborative Professionals and is one of eight of the core faculty of the American Institute for Mediation. He now serves on the first Executive Committee of the National Academy of Neutrals.
Mr. Rubin has written extensively, including ADR chapters for Lexis/Nexus, the ABA Dispute Resolution Magazine and maintains a regular ethics' column for the Advanced Commercial Mediation Institute Newsletter (a part of ACR). He has lectured for a variety of Webinars and has been the keynote speaker for various international, national and state conferences. He merges the practitioner, ethicist and teacher into all of his work.
