BIOGRAPHICAL:

In January 2007, I began the private practice of mediation and arbitration. Cases have involved personal injury, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, employment, engineering, construction, probate, real estate, contract, municipal ordinance and rezoning, subrogation, Security and Exchange Commission claims, and domestic issues. Many of these matters involved complex issues and multiple parties. In excess of 95% of those cases mediated the parties resolved their disputes.

In my capacity as Judge of the Seventh Judicial District of Iowa, I conducted in excess of one thousand Family & Domestic Law settlement conferences and hundreds of Civil Law Case (tort, contract and miscellaneous) settlement conferences with a success rate of 90% or more. This includes the successful settlement of not only single-party cases, but complex multi-party cases involving insurance coverage, medical malpractice, construction projects and fire damage. A career highlight was my accomplishment in organizing and conducting a state-wide settlement conference for all asbestos-related litigation in Iowa, both state and federal courts. This was a multi-day conference resulting in the settlement of thousands of claims.
