Before being appointed to the bench in 1997, Jerry practiced with McDevitt & Meyers Law firm. His civil work emphasized injury cases - both plaintiff and defense, civil rights defense for the State of Idaho representing police officers accused of abusing their power, outside legal counsel for Idaho State University, workers compensation cases, and general business law. Criminal defense--misdemeanor, felony including cases involving murder and rape. He argued 10 cases to the Idaho Court of Appeals and Idaho Supreme Court during this time.

Following his retirement from the bench in 2006, Judge Meyers has focused his practice on mediation and arbitration - and has conducted in excess of 750 mediations since then.
