BIOGRAPHICAL:

Gary L. Birnbaum is the Managing Director of Mariscal, Weeks, McIntyre & Friedlander, P.A., a 57-attorney general civil practice law firm based in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Birnbaum has significant experience in all aspects of commercial and real estate litigation and ADR. He has also handled business, real estate and securities transactions in various contexts.

Mr. Birnbaum is a well-known lecturer on ADR and business and real estate valuation topics and has been a contributor to the Commercial Real Estate Transactions Practice Manual, published by the State Bar of Arizona, and to Nichols on Eminent Domain, published by Matthew Bender. He has served as Chairman of the Law Practice Management Section of the State Bar of Arizona and is a member of the National Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association and The Counselors of Real Estate. Mr. Birnbaum is also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the College of Law Practice Management. For many years he has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Business Litigation, Real Estate Litigation, Real Estate, Condemnation Law, Legal Malpractice Defense, Bet-the-Company Litigation, Arbitration and Mediation) and he currently serves as Associate Dean for Program Development at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University where he teaches advanced courses on "Private Property Rights" and "The Valuation of Real Estate and Closely-Held Businesses." Mr. Birnbaum also served as a faculty member in Arizona State University's transdisciplinary Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) program and was a co-funder of that program.

In 2009, The Best Lawyers in America selected Mr. Birnbaum as the "Bet-the-Company" Litigator of the Year for Phoenix, Arizona. In 2010, the same publication selected Mr. Birnbaum as the "Alternative Dispute Resolution" Lawyer of the Year for Phoenix, Arizona. Southwest Super Lawyers has designated Mr. Birnbaum as one of the "Top 50" attorneys in Arizona. He estimates that his mediation (and arbitration) experience has included approximately 500 proceedings. He serves on both the Commercial Arbitration and Mediation Panels of the American Arbitration Association (AAA).

EDUCATION:

Mr. Birnbaum graduated summa cum laude (B.A. with highest honors) from the State University of New York at Binghamton and obtained his law degree (magna cum laude) from Indiana University where he served as Articles Editor of the Indiana Law Journal. Mr. Birnbaum has been elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Coif.

Rates
